Exclusive: G CHILD from BBC’s 1Xtra makes special guest appearance at Crossways Sixth Form!

Students at Crossways Sixth Form pose for a photo with 1Xtra Radio DJ G Child

On Wednesday 1st December, BBC ‘s 1Xtra Radio DJ and Presenter G Child visited Crossways Sixth Form in Brockley, South London to support and guide students participating in the DJ & MC Academy’s ‘Social Awareness through Radio Presenting’ Programme.

Students who had signed up to the 6 week Radio Presenting course had the exclusive and unique opportunity to ask G Child questions about his life growing up in Birmingham and what influences inspired him to get in to the music scene, particularly DJ’ing. Young people engaging in the DJing aspect of the course, gained valuable practical hands on skills from the experienced and expert DJ and those wanting to develop in Radio Presenting recieved an insight into the industry, including vital tips on how to deliver gripping radio discourse.

G Child began his career in 1997 when he became a DJ for a pirate radio station in Birmingham. He then went on to become the Midlands Representatative for the Sony Street Team, interviewing A list stars from Mariah Carey to Destiny’s Child. In 2001 G Child joined Def Jam’s UK Street Team and this is where things really started to take off  paving the way for his notable success at BBC Radio 1Xtra where he presented his r’n’b show ‘The Refix’ every Friday night from 12pm till 2am. He’s also presented shows on Radio 1 and produced guest mixes for Trevor Nelson and Dave Pearce’s shows.

As well as success on air and in clubs in the UK, G Child has made a name for himself as an international DJ supporting key artists such as Kanye West, Timbaland, Nelly, Fat Man Scoop, Ja Rule and Christina Milian on tour.

In an interivew with G Child he stated “My aim here [at Crossways] is to give the knowledge that i’ve learn’t over the 8 years of working for the BBC and I want to pass that on to young people that are interested in carving a career in the music industry.” He went on to say “This is a way for me to give back and its something that I find really rewarding and fulfilling.”

All the Best of Luck to the young participants in the Social Awareness through Radio Presenting course at Crossways Sixth Form, who are presenting their own radio shows in the New Year.

Please stay tuned for the exclusive video of G Child’s interview from Crossways Sixth Form.
